Prévu à l'origine pour ce début d'année, on sait maintenant que le tournage de The Boys are Back in Town est repoussé à Septembre de ce mois-ci.

[...]the Coast might be getting another taste of Hollywood in September with the Australian-British co-production The Boys Are Back In Town feature film set to start shooting on locations in southern Queensland.

British heart-throb Clive Owen is expected to play the lead role in the comic drama which is a co-production from local movie producers Greg Brenman (Billy Elliot) and Tim White (Gettin' Square).

En promotion pour la sortie prochaine de Shoot' Em up, Clive Owen évoque son role futur dans la prochaine réalisation de Scott Hicks, se déclarant assez préssé de venir tourner en Australie.

Owen also confirmed he has signed on to star in Scott Hicks’ first Australian feature since ‘’Shine’’, ‘’The Boys Are Back in Town’’, to be shot in Hicks’ town of Adelaide. Based on a true story, Owen describes the character he is set to play as a “British journalist, sports journalist living in Australia, whose wife dies of cancer and he’s left with his little seven year old boy. It’s really about him and the little boy both grieving and creating this new family. Then he gets a phone call from his teenage son from a previous marriage in England who says ‘I want to come out and get to know my dad’, so suddenly the dynamic is him, his estranged teenage son and this little seven year old.” The actor says he’s dying to spend some time in Australia. “I am very excited and am going to make it a whole family experience because it’s somewhere we all, as a family, wanted to go for a long time.”

US snaps up Aussie movie

By Sandy George

A PLANNED Australian independent film looks like it will achieve the nearly impossible task of selling US distribution rights to a major studio before a single frame of film has passed through the camera.

The producers of The Boys are Back in Town, the first film to be shot in Australia by director Scott Hicks since he made Shine, are known to be in negotiations with Miramax, although they will not confirm it.

The distribution powerhouse owned by the Walt Disney Company was established by Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

The Boys are Back in Town is a drama adapted by Allan Cubitt from British author Simon Carr's memoir about a sports writer who, in tragic circumstances, becomes a single parent of two boys from different marriages.

Adelaide-based Hicks has cast Clive Owen as the father and most of the Australian-British co-production will be filmed in Queensland from early next year. Only a small component will be shot in Britain.

Owen was recently seen in Australian cinemas in Children of Men and will appear opposite Cate Blanchett in the upcoming The Golden Age.

Local producer Tim White is working on The Boys are Back in Town with British producer Greg Brenman from Tiger Aspect, a big British television production house that also made the feature Billy Elliot.

BBC Films and Film Finance Corporation Australia have contributed finance.

Capitol Films has added Scott Hicks' The Boys Are Back In Town to its Cannes slate, which will star Clive Owen.

The Tiger Aspect Pictures/Southern Light Films co-production is made in association with BBC Films and Film Finance Corporation of Australia.

Allan Cubitt has adapted Simon Carr's memoir of the same name, about a sports writer who becomes a single parent in tragic circumstances.

The shoot is scheduled to start in January 2008.

Tiger Aspect's Greg Brenman said: "We are delighted that Capitol is handling worldwide sales on The Boys Are Back In Town. Their relationship with the international distribution community is second to none and they have the perfect sensibility to handle this incredibly deep and powerful project and relay Scott's vision to buyers."

Hicks' past films include Shine and Snow Falling On Cedars.

Capitol's Cannes slate also includes Don Roos' Love And Other Impossible Pursuits starring Jennifer Lopez, Joshua Marston's The Fortress Of Solitude, Sidney Lumet's Before The Devil Know You're Dead, and John Maybury's The Edge Of Love starring Kiera Knightley and Sienna Miller.

L'édition en ligne du journal "The Australian" fait etat de rumeurs comme quoi Clive Owen pourrait jouer le rôle principal dans le prochain film de Hicks, l'adaptation de "The Boys are Back in Town".

WORD is that Clive Owen is to take the lead role of a single dad in Adelaide-based director Scott Hicks's The Boys are Back in Town, but producer Tim White has not confirmed this. The British actor (Gosford Park, The Bourne Identity, Children of Men) plays Walter Raleigh opposite Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth I in the upcoming The Golden Age. Hicks has not shot a film in Australia since Shine in 1995. The Boys are Back in Town will be made in Queensland, probably from mid 2007. The comedy-drama has been adapted from a book by British author Simon Carr and is a co-production with Tiger Aspect, one of the UK's biggest film and television producers. Billy Elliot is one of its credits. Hicks has shot three films since Shine, all in North America, although he brings them back to Adelaide for post-production. He is days away from finishing No Reservations, an English-language version of the German film Mostly Martha. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the chef this time. Hicks made Snow Falling on Cedars and Hearts in Atlantis.
